I provide expert laparoscopic (keyhole) and open surgery for inguinal, umbilical, femoral and spigelian hernias. My approach focuses on safe, durable repair with minimal pain and a fast return to normal activity. Patients are seen in Southampton, Winchester and across Hampshire. Consultations include a clear diagnosis, personalised treatment plan and discussion of laparoscopic versus open repair.

The best technique depends on your hernia type, size, symptoms and medical history. Laparoscopic repair can offer faster recovery and less pain, while open repair is effective for small or complex hernias. I will discuss both options during your consultation.
Most patients return to work and light exercise within one to two weeks after laparoscopic repair. Open repair may take slightly longer depending on the size of the hernia.
uE Yes. Modern mesh is safe, reliable and used worldwide. The European Hernia Society guidelines recommend a mesh-based repair technique for the majority of patients undergoing inguinal hernia repair because it reduces the risk of hernia recurrence without increasing the risk of chronic pain.
Hernias do not improve on their own and usually enlarge over time. Some hernias have a higher risk of complications and should be repaired promptly.
Light walking is encouraged immediately. Most patients can resume gym activity after two to four weeks, depending on comfort and the type of repair.
